about
It has been a horrible and tragic time; globally, nationally and personally, things have been very difficult. We all know about the global and national. Personally, I've lost both a dear friend and my children’s grandmother in the last few weeks. So much loss. So much sadness. And, to be perfectly honest, so much fear.
At the same time, I'm tremendously excited about completing the recording of the final song for my first full length album. It is “The Times They are A'Changin.” It is my best effort to communicate the passion I have for music and for justice. I am grateful beyond words for the contributions of the marvelous musicians, singers and collaborators who made this recording possible.
I would be so pleased if you would listen to the whole thing. Please share this with anyone and everyone. When we were recording the “choir,” I felt so excited that all my skepticism, all the world weariness that had encrusted my heart over these long years fell away. As we listened to these beautiful voices, just then recorded, for at least a moment, I was 20 again. Full of the belief we could stop the war, end the senseless killing and, as Mother Nature’s silver seed, save the planet itself. In that euphoric moment, I exulted! “This will change the world!”
Yes, perhaps, I got a little ahead of myself. Yes, I acknowledge pride of craftsmanship that may be a bit overblown. But, damn, it felt good to have a moment of unalloyed OPTIMISM. That feeling I remember from marching in DC to end the war, believing in the power of our “revolution” to change the world. May this song be as a blessing.
lyrics
TIMES THEY ARE A’CHANGIN
Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters Around you have grown
And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide, the chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon for the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who That it's namin'
For the loser now Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come, congressmen senators Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside and it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land
And don't criticize What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command
Your old road is Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn the curse it is cast
The slow one now Will later be fast
As the present now Will later be past
The order is Rapidly fadin'
And the first one now Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.
